The WordPress Fan Club

I will admit that I am definitely in the WP Fan Club. I have learned so much more about SEO, the 2.0 community, content development, design and programming ever since a favorite programmer of mine introduced me to this piece of open source software. I just found out through TechCrunch that Automattic (the company where WP founding developers work) are going to offer their consulting services to large enterprises for a fee. Finally, WP will begin to bring in some income. This brings up a good debate: Do web 2.0 companies have a clear business perspective or not?
There is a lot of buzz around the 2.0 bubble and whether or not a bubble even exists is to some, debatable. I ran into an article on RussellBeattie.com where he preached a rather interesting lesson on his blogbox. The main point he was trying to drive home was that so many of these web 2.0 startups are pouring a lot of venture capital money and development time into a business that has no real sense of a business plan. The example he used that comes to mind is Zillow.com. They put together an incredible database of useful information with no clear way to make money. Therefore, in my mind I am glad to see one aspect of how WordPress will be able to earn some cash, which in the end will be better for their users. Afterall developers gotta eat.
