Update: Obama 2.0 it is! In case not all of you know this, Obama addressed everyone on his email list before delivering his acceptance speech to the nation. In that email he acknowledged that he understands what an important role the Internet has played in this past election. How proud does that make you?!? Recent news reports that President-elect Barack Obama will have to forgo the Blackberry. But I have a feeling that will change with President Obama at the helm. Change. Sigh. It feels good doesn’t it?.

This is it, history in the making, we’re almost there but not yet (despite the mainstream media discounting the West which is super annoying btw).

This has been one exciting election unequal to any other that I have experienced in my 31 years of life. It feels different, doesn’t it?

This presidential election has also shown how important Web 2.0 can be and what value it provides. From the LinkedIn invites from Barack Obama to Facebook activity supporting one candidate over the other it has shown the kind of reach you can make…virtually. Bloggers who embraced the blogosphere for the first time as an outlet for their thoughts on politics have become overnight sensations, like Helen Philpot.

It’s interesting because I know of people that created blogs specifically for election results for the 2008 Presidential Election back in 2004. I looked for them in a Google and Google Blog search and they didn’t come up in the first couple pages. I don’t think they were planning on having Google themselves get into the action with their handy little Presidential Elections Results map (embedded below). Interesting little fact is that a couple of the top results for the Presidential Election results on Google were blogs or sites from other countries.

I also have to say it was very interesting to login to Facebook today and see which friends supported McCain or Obama. I was a little surprised…I’m sure they weren’t surprised for my support for Obama. Man, you gotta love Facebook for that kind of stuff. I always wondered how many people I would piss off if I were to get political on there and now I know.

So after today what will happen to all those newly discovered political bloggers? Will they continue to blog about politics? Will we continue to care? I don’t know. I think there is a lot of new information to be learned about social media and blogs from this presidential election. Now if only someone would figure it out for me. Happy Election Day!
